Cecil Beaton said “Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert the integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play it safers, the creatures of the common place, the slaves of the ordinary.”

Philip Short feels these words embody everything that he wants for himself as an artist and his own work.  Sometimes breaking the bondage of the predictable and the common place doesn’t mean reinventing the wheel.  Sometimes it is taking the established technique and driving it slightly differently than the manual says.  “Out of This World” is one example of Philip Short exploring his own universe in search of undiscovered creative life.
